today is the birthday of every pet we've ever had
or at least my kids think so
when asked when the dogs/cats/fishes birthdays are
my stock answer is always april 1st
you'd think they'd catch on by now, wouldn't you?
when the kids were small and we used to rent a cabin up north
the first thing we'd do upon arrival was set the clocks forward 2 hours
that way, the kids would be able to stay up until "midnight"
(because it was vacation)
but the parents would be able to begin relaxing at the real time of 10
(because it was vacation)
years ago, a friend's kids would swear their disgust (complete with face making) at "liver", yet, every wednesday, they would eagerly devour their dinner of "fried beef & onions"
I have to remember to ask her when they learned the truth
my dad told me he was bald
because he went outside with wet hair and it all froze off!
I believed him until I was way too old

thanks funny nameless. april 1st for all pet birthdays. i'm sorry i didn't think of that, now i know what to tell my daugther. thanks.
And did you know that Popeye's birthday is June 1st and that it should be celebrated with spinach and chocolate cake (his favorite since cake doesn't come in spinach flavor - oddly enough, also my Mother's favorite...)
I might have been taken in by the pet birthdays and the clock as a kid, but the "steak and onions" would never have flown. Yuk!!!
Honey, my mom used to pull crap like this on me all the time. The only problem was, some of the things she "lied" to me about I still believed as an adult. Boy, did I look like an idiot. Thanks Mom!
